Estimating the statistical uncertainty due to spatially correlated noise in interferometric images

چکیده

Interferometers (e.g. ALMA and NOEMA) allow us to obtain the detailed brightness distribution of astronomical sources in 3 dimensions (R.A., Dec., frequency). However, spatial correlation noise makes it difficult evaluate statistical uncertainty measured quantities significance results obtained. The properties interferometric image are fully characterized easily by autocorrelation function (ACF). We present method for (1) estimating due correlated spatially integrated flux spectra directly, (2) simulating perform a Monte Carlo simulation analyses, (3) constructing covariance matrix chi-square $\chi^2$ be used when fitting model an with noise, based on ACF. demonstrate example applications scientific data showing that ignoring can lead significant underestimation false detections/interpretations.

Estimating intensity variance due to noise in registered images

Image registration refers to the process of finding the spatial correspondence between two or more images. This is usually done by applying a spatial transformation, computed automatic or manually, to a given image using a continuous image model computed either with interpolation or approximation methods. We show that noise induced signal variance in interpolated images differs significantly fr...

Estimating intensity variance due to noise in registered images: applications to diffusion tensor MRI.

Image registration techniques which require image interpolation are widely used in neuroimaging research. We show that signal variance in interpolated images differs significantly from the signal variance of the original images in native space. We describe a simple approach to compute the signal variance in registered images based on the signal variance and covariance of the original images, th...

Estimating evoked dipole responses in unknown spatially correlated noise with EEG/MEG arrays

We present maximum likelihood (ML) methods for estimating evoked dipole responses using electroencephalography (EEG) and magnetoencephalography (MEG) arrays, which allow for spatially correlated noise between sensors with unknown covariance. The electric source is modeled as a collection of current dipoles at fixed locations and the head as a spherical conductor. We permit the dipoles’ moments ...

Coherence resonance due to correlated noise in neuronal models

We study the regularity of noise-induced excitations in the FitzHugh–Nagumo (FHN) neuronal model subject to excitatory and inhibitory high-frequency input with and without correlations. For each value of the correlation a relative maximum of spike coherence can be observed for intermediate noise strengths (coherence resonance). Moreover, the FHN system exhibits an absolute maximum of coherent s...
